We opened Entropy Bar on Hinckley Road in March 2000.
The property at 42 Hinckley Road had been a butcher’s shop well known in the area as a bit of a landmark however, when we discovered it, the shop was boarded up and had been vacant for over 5 years.
When rennovations began we decided to keep the old ‘H North’ sign as a tribute to the heritage of the building, its first ever occupant being Mr H North the butcher back in the 1890’s.
Originally, Entropy Bar operated from just one terraced shop as a small 18-cover bar. In June 2001 we expanded into the next-door shop, more than trebling the capacity of the premises and enabling us to serve food. It was during the conversion of this shop that we found the ‘Worthington’s’ sign – Worthington’s grocers were once famous in Leicester as the first self service chain of shops – we kept their sign also.
Tom had apprenticed as a chef at the Michelin-starred Hambleton Hall in Rutland so once Entropy had a kitchen he started cooking for us full-time. In February 2003, 18 months later, Entropy was awarded ‘Best pub/bar meal in Leicestershire’ at the Leicestershire Tourism Awards and shortly after that was a finalist at the Heart of England Awards and Shortlisted for the Observer Food Monthly Food Awards.
Entropy Bar has since evolved and matured into the well-established Bar/Restaurant it is today – we have fantastic menus designed to give the best value whilst demonstrating the consummate skill of our award-winning and nationally recognised chefs.
We still have a very strong community and local feel, with the style and sophistication of a city centre venue. We aim to be driven less by trends than by quality, value, service, flexibility & professionalism.
